Hole in the wall spot. No trouble. I've eaten great Chinese food in hole in the wall spots. But this ain't one of those. The egg roll was okay, I have had frozen ones from my air fryer that are better. We ordered black pepper chicken, which hubby said was good, sweet and sour chicken, which teen said was good, but the chicken and mushrooms was pretty bad. 2 tiny bits of chicken, bamboo that was inedible. And the "pork fried rice" (which we all had) had zero pork and zero vegetables. Also seemed it was cooked hours ago, and had gotten hard, but yet somehow didn't look fried. I don't even know how that is possible. Chinese food isn't hard (for most).

This is an average Cinese food establishment for take-out orders only located at 450F Racetrack Rd. NW in Ft. Walton Beach. The front counter was 95% encased in cellophane wrap. I ordered the Kung Po Chicken, but it is not Kung P Chicken. They chopped up some frozen breaded chicken and mixed it with some vegetables. I do not believe it is worth the $10.50 for the order, but others may disagree. The narrow doorway might accommodate a wheelchair. There is plenty of parking in the Plaza parking lot.

My only complaint about this place is that I’m here on vacation and it is 6 hours from home This spot for me is Chinese takeout goals. First off, I love how the menu offers smaller portions so single folks like me can have a variety of items. My total was less than $20 for what’s in the pic (+ an egg roll). I usually have to spend close to $30 to get a 2 dishes at similar places. My two favorite items, Sweet n Sour chicken and Beef lo mein taste exactly how I want them to. I love that they do the SS sauce on the side. Everything was made fresh while I waited. Staff was kind and helpful. I will absolutely come back to this spot on my next Emerald Coast trip.

We've ordered from here a few times, it's always been good and the price is right. Friendly and quick service. My only complaint is that this time the to go boxes (particularly the rice containers) absolutely wreaked of cologne.. the food inside was fine, it was like someone that had soaked themselves in cologne handled the to go containers shortly after so some transferred onto them. I normally eat my rice out of the container but it was absolutely nauseating smelling it while eating, I had to put it in something else this time. We will definitely come back, but I just wanted to mention this as I hope this small issue could be remedied moving forward.

Came to place a To go order. Ordered the Orange chicken plate, it comes with a side of fried rice and egg roll. It was a huge portion and it was under $11. It was busy with to go/pick up orders, but the service was friendly, and I waited approx. 10 minutes. The food was delicious and I would recommend this if you are wanting Chinese food!

Welcome to Hunan Express in beautiful Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where takeout meets convenience and affordability! Nestled at 450 Racetrack Rd NW, this little eatery has garnered mixed reviews, offering a testament to how personal tastes can shape one’s dining experience.

From the moment you step into Hunan Express, you might notice its humble atmosphere—a classic "hole in the wall" vibe. However, many food lovers know that some of the best culinary treasures lurk in these unassuming spots. Yet, the reviews tell a varied story. Some diners have found joy in the simplicity and affordability of the menu, especially those looking for a quick meal while soaking up the sun on the Emerald Coast. With reviews highlighting favorites like Sweet and Sour Chicken and Beef Lo Mein, it’s clear that certain dishes resonate well, particularly with vacationers seeking a taste of home, yet at a pocket-friendly price.

However, not everything has been savory; several patrons have expressed disappointment, particularly with certain offerings like the Kung Pao Chicken and pork fried rice. Comments have pointed toward inconsistent quality, with some dishes lacking the robust flavors typically associated with authentic Chinese cuisine. The frozen chicken used in the Kung Pao has raised eyebrows, and the rice has been described as past its prime, leaving diners craving something more satisfying.

Despite the disappointments voiced, there’s a clear silver lining amid the critiques. Regulars often appreciate the friendly and quick service, and the option to order smaller portions caters perfectly to solo diners or those wanting to sample multiple dishes without breaking the bank. Customers have noted that they’ll return for the fresh, made-to-order meals, and a chance to explore more of the menu on their next visit.

In summary, Hunan Express - Fort Walton Beach embodies the classic charm of a local eatery, where culinary hits and misses intertwine. While you're unlikely to experience culinary perfection throughout your entire order, the affordability and efficiency may just make it a go-to for a quick fix when you're in the area. Your next meal could be a delightful surprise, so why not stop by and decide for yourself?
